Heavyweight
Heavyweight started as Heavyweight Production House (HVW8) which was formed in 1998 in Montreal, out of the collaborative efforts of a group of like-minded artists and designers, Tyler Gibney and Gene Pendon, to create a vehicle for their art & design work. Drawing from the urban environment, Heavyweight developed a mix-blend of styles & skills accumulated from a free association of intuitive interests - peripheral influences included rare groove album covers, Japanese hyper-pop styles, dub soundscapes, graffiti burns, skate graphics and turntable culture.
One of the main artistic projects of Heavyweight Production House, the Heavyweight Art Installation is made up of Tyler Gibney, G Starship and Dan Bulller. The HVW8 Art installation first debut was painting live at the 1999 Montreal Jazz Festival. The three artists work in collaboration producing live paintings, using the environment as inspiration. The painting process is a challenge of graphic resourcefulness; the live aspect compresses the painting experience into spontaneous reactions to time, space and energy. Heayvweight Art Installation has toured and exhibited internationally.
When the three artists aren’t working together as collective Heavyweight, they focused on their solo art project.
