Gene Pendon
Gene Pendon started his art practice at an early age. Trained in illustration and painting at an early age from his father, Gene discovered graffit in 1983 and was doing murals by 1986. After completing his BFA at Concordia in Drawing and Painting, Gene worked as a freelance illustrator and graphic artist as well as an art director and production designer for film and video. During these years Gene teamed up with Dan Buller aka DSTRBO to create the Spill Collective, a Montreal-based live painting troupe. In 1998 he later joined forces with Tyler Gibney to form Heavyweight Production House (HVW8), and now works as Heavyweight’s chief painter, and studio and project manager.
He has exhibited with the Saidye Bronfman Centre for the Arts in Montreal, and his illustration work has been seen for such recent HVW8 clients and projects such as Earth, Wind and Fire (Sanctuary Records), Gift of Gab (Blackalicious), Bobbito (R2 Records), Levi’s, And 1 Basketball Mixtape series, Gravis Footwear, Urb Magazine, Complex Magazine, Muhammed Ali signature line for Adidas, and Pepsi-Cola.
